Apple MacBook Air 11in Lighter than a netbook

This ultraportable notebook is more portable than a netbook, and it’s also significantly more powerful. Shame about the small amount of storage.

For $1,199 the Apple MacBook Air 11in is a marvellous ultraportable notebook, as it has fair specs while weighing 1.06kg and measuring  17mm thick, 192mm deep and 299.5mm wide. The only thing more portable than it is a tablet.

Running the whole show is an Intel Core 2 Duo SL9400 (1.86GHz), a low-end processor that will do well running the specialised programs in the Snow Leopard operating system. Also helpful towards performance is the NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics card, although only 2GB of RAM will dent the notebook’s ability to run several programs at once.

Also a small problem is the 64GB solid state drive; it will very rapidly fill up, but for about $200 more there’s a variant of the MacBook Air 11in that has a slightly better 128GB solid state drive. Both are small, but that’s the price to be paid for something so minute. The 11.6in screen is HD resolution, so movies are easily watchable even if the screen size is a bit small.

You can't really go wrong buying this notebook. It's a very strong mix of capability and price. It's close to the top of its game, though to be fair, it could still be better.
