Microsoft India will officially launch Windows Phone 7 and Bing search engine in India later this year, a company official has confirmed in a news report. The report further claims that Microsoft India Development Centre (MSIDC) has finetuned the products for the Indian audience to bring greater Indian relevance.
According to an Economic Times report, Amit Chaterjee, MD of MSIDC, said "Windows Phone 7 will be launched in a few months but the date has not yet been decided."
Mr. Chaterjee was speaking about Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 and Bing search engine during a session elaborating about MSIDC's role in Microsoft's global product development landscape.
Windows Phone 7 and Bing search engine are two areas of interest for MSIDC, further to the report.
Windows Phone 7 was launched globally over a year ago, with the first WP7 smartphones launched in October last year. Device makers like HTC and Dell have already launched WP7 smartphones in India, like the HTC HD7 and Dell Venue Pro.
This is a curious trend in India where device manufacturers announce products before the official launch of the platform they're based on. We've seen it with AMD Fusion chips launch -- which happened after the Sony VAIO YB laptop launch. And now this with Microsoft. We hope future product releases are better co-ordinated.
