LG Optimus Pad: 9-inch, Tegra 2, Android 3.0 tablet launched

LG's foray into tablets has finally begun with the Optimus Pad Android tablet at the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2011) expo in Barcelona, Spain. The 9-inch LG Optimus Pad is based on the Nvidia Tegra 2 chipset and runs on Android 3.0 Honeycomb OS -- Google's Android version for tablets only.

LG Optimus Pad is a 8.9-inch Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet with a unique 15:9 aspect ratio display -- the LG Optimus Pad tablet comes with a 1280x768 capacitive touchscreen display.

The 9-inch LG Optimus Pad Android 3.0 tablet has a 1-GHz dual-core processor based on Nvidia's Tegra 2 chipset. Compared to the Motorola Xoom tablet announced at CES 2011 last month, the LG Optimus Pad has a few tricks up its sleeve.

The LG Optimus Tab weighs about 600gm and its two 5MP cameras can shoot photos and videos in 3D -- there's a 2MP camera on the front for videochats. The LG Optimus Pad tablet has 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11n, and Bluetooth wireless connectivity options. The Android 3.0 tablet also comes with GPS support and an HDMI port. The tablet comes with a 32GB storage option. The LG Optimus PAd also has a microUSB port on its body.

The LG Optimus Pad can play 1080p HD videos and one of its camera can record in HD 720p videos -- though not in 3D. No pricing details yet, although the LG Optimus Pad will start appearing in markets from March.
